At the turn of the century he led a World Bank-Infodev project to stimulate entrepreneurship in Latin America. He is a senior member of IEEE where he leads the Future Directions Committee. He has published over 100 papers in journals and magazines and 14 books, and writes a daily blog on technology and digital economy: eitdigital.eu/blog.

Aaron has been an instrumental leader in helping Kansas City prepare to be the first market for Google Fiber. He helped creating the Building for “the Gigabit City community brainstorming session”, led the “Give Us a Gig” initiative for neighborhood education, engagement and advocacy, and organized the Gigabit City Summit to explore city infrastructure issues around next generation.

Gilles Betis

IEEE Smart Cities Initiative Chairman; Open Data Project Director at the Transdev Digital factory.

Graduated in 1987 from Ecole Supérieure d’Electricité in France.

Since the end of the eighties, he has been constantly involved with prospective, innovation and design of complex systems. Having an extensive industrial experience in Intelligent Transportation Systems and Smart Cities, he always linked up emerging behaviours and societal needs to innovative technological solutions, allowing smooth adoption by final users.

Ari Virtanen

Founding partner and Managing Director of Advion Group Ltd.

Keynote: “IoT Business Potential in Emerging Markets”.

He was born in Finland and has worked and lived in many parts of the world for over 15 years. In the recent years, he has used the IoT technology as a tool and means of production transformation in the company restructuring and production relocation processes and developing LEAN and OEE production disciplines.

Ari Virtanen has over 30 years of international experience in executive and management level positions.

He works for global clients such as Nike, Volvo, Google, Fossil or Samsung integrating brand stories, connected services and enchanted products in people’s cultural and emotional contexts.
Pablo has been recognized internationally in different Festivals and Awards for his work, as well shared his passion for art, technology and design in forums like School of Visual Arts, Bloomberg LP, Ars Electronica, Istituto Europeo di Design, and Interaction Design Association among others.

Marcos developed his professional career in multinational companies in the area of planning and marketing having within its responsibilities the implementation of policies of e-business. He is a leading entrepreneur in the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) industry in Latin America and a leader in Digital Economy in the region.

Rubén Flores-Saaib

Director of Commercialization, University of California

Keynote: “Fostering Digital Transformation Through Innovation”.

Rubén is the Director of the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, at the University of California, San Diego where he oversees all aspects of technology development, intellectual property protection, partnering and licensing for all research conducted on campus.

Cristina Bueti

Advisor of ITU-T Study Group 5 “Environment and Climate Change” at the International Telecommunication Union”

Keynote: “Building Smart Sustainable Cities”.

She is responsible for ITU-T’s activities related to ICTs and environment with a special focus on climate change and e-waste issues. Graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and International Cooperation and Development of the University of Florence, where she completed postgraduate studies in International Cooperation.
